Symptoms
The main symptom of Epidermolysis Bullosa is the eruption of vesicles filled with liquid that form on the on the skin, most often on the hands and feet in response to friction. Depending on the type of EB, these vesicles can manifest in different areas of the body.
In less serious cases, the blistered skin disappears without leaving a scar.
Signs and symptoms:
- Phlyctens, the location and severity of which depend on the type of EB
- Malformation, absence or loss of nails
- Internal vesicles, which include the throat, the oesophagus, the upper airways, the stomach, the intestines and the urinary tract
- Hyperkeratosis
- Scarring alopecia (phlyctens on the scalp, scarring and loss of hair)
- Dental anomalies
- Excessive perspiration
- Dysphagia and intestinal atresia – source of obstruction.
